Only a Diary / ただの日記帳

Getting in touch

Questions and bug reports are welcome. This app is made by one person, so a reply may take a few days.

kyoagun@gmail.com

For a bug, it helps to include your device, your OS version, and the app version (shown at the bottom of Settings → What this app commits to). Please do not send your diary entries. They cannot be read from here, and there is no need for them.

Common questions

How do I move to a new phone?
On the old device, export to a ZIP from "Export and import", then choose that file on the new device with "Restore from a file". The same file works between iPhone and Android.
If you keep a copy in the cloud, just press "Restore" on the new device.
I lost my device. Can I get my diary back?
Yes, if you have an exported file or a copy in your cloud. Without either, there is no way to recover it. The developer holds no copy; the diary lived only on that device.
I forgot the passphrase on a sealed file.
A sealed file opens only with its passphrase. It is stored neither on your device nor on any server, so not even the developer can open it. That is by design, not an oversight.
I forgot my passcode.
Use the 20-character recovery key shown when you set the passcode. Without both, there is no way into the app. If you have an exported file, reinstall and import it.
How many photos can I add?
There is no limit, and they are not recompressed. Your device's free space is the only bound.
Can the developer read my diary?
No. There is no developer server and no path by which entries could arrive. See the privacy policy for detail.
I am uneasy about the Google Drive permission on Android.
The app requests exactly one scope, drive.appdata. It reaches only a hidden folder belonging to this app and cannot even list your other files.
What is inside an exported file?
Entries as plain UTF-8 text, a table of dates and moods as JSON, and your photos in the format they were taken. Unzip it and everything is readable without this app. The format is documented, so other tools can read and write it too.
I would like a refund.
Payment is handled by the App Store, so refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
